SMC Teacher Profile: John Abdallah, Violin

John Abdallah’s musical journey started with piano lessons at the age of five. However, his true calling was the violin, an instrument he chose for himself at the age of nine.

Music was something he pursued because his parents encouraged him to play an instrument. The discipline of learning to play was sometimes difficult because of arguments with his parents about what and how he should practice.

His personal love for music started to grow in high school. John attributes his passion for the violin with years of practice.

He played in the School Orchestra, The Fresno Youth Symphony, and the All-State Orchestra. John also tutored fellow orchestra members and developed an interest in teaching.

Choosing a career in music, John attended UC Davis, majoring in violin performance and economics. He was Assistant Concertmaster of the UCD Symphony Orchestra and Concertmaster of the Davis Summer Symphony.

In 2006, John joined the “Experimental College” at UC Davis as the Violin Instructor. A year later, he started his teaching career at the YACM where he is able to share his passion for the violin and music in general.

“YACM is a unique and special place for musical development,” John explains. “Quality instrument and theory instructors help to instill a deeper understanding of music, which, to me, is the overall goal in the education of any striving musician. I feel fortunate to be a part of YACM and the Vacaville music community.”
