Summer Stomp Coming to YACM

Register now for an all new program: Summer Stomp!
The goal of this week-long day camp is to help kids master the basics of rhythm and introduce them to joy of being able to make music with any available object.
Rhythm is a combination of movement, and time. A ticking clock with its steady second hand rotating around its clock face is -- from the perspective of music -- a mechanical drum.
Put your hand on your chest and feel the steady beat of your heart: one TWO, three FOUR -- one TWO, three FOUR -- one TWO three FOUR. You are a walking drum.
Listen to your washing maching on its agitation cycle.
Rhythm turns random noice into music.
Once young musicians learn to sound their instrument, they must discipline their bodies so that they can produce sound at the just the right time with just the right stress.
Can you make a spoon and a sauce pan sound like a human heart? How about dry beans in a can? Can you make them sound like your washing machine? How about your violin, your cello, and your viola?
Can you make it sound like Bach's Brandenburg Concerto?
Well it all begings with rhythm. This is why Summer Stomp is coming to YACM.
