Emma Miller: Student of the Month

Nine-year-old Emma Miller is in the 3rd grade and has been playing the piano for two years.

She has taken lessons at the Conservatory since October 2014. She decided to learn the piano because it creates a beautiful sound that inspires her to play.

Julie Weinacht is Emma's instructor.

“Emma gets gold and silver stars almost every week,” Ms. Weinacht said. “She brings a completed and signed practice record every week and she practices every single day. Emma is a hard worker and I am very proud to call her my student!”

Emma enjoys taking lessons with Ms. Weinacht because she is " very fun" and teaches her something new every week.

When asked about practicing, Emma said, “I practice every day. Practicing is important because it is really fun and it makes me feel good.”

Her main goal for this semester is to be able to learn and play harder pieces that will help her to reach the intermediate level. A recent challenge that she has overcome is being able to perform in front of other people.

Emma is currently working on Haydn’s “Surprise Symphony” which she will be performing at her “Melody Makers” recital in June. Her favorite, composer, however, is W.A. Mozart.

Outside of the Conservatory, Emma’s favorite kind of food is pasta, but she loves to eat burgers at The Habit. Her hobbies include sewing, basketball, and ballet and her favorite movie is the Harry Potter series.

She enjoys listening to contemporary music and her favorite band is alt-J.

When asked about her musical abilities, Emma said, “I am proud of myself for progressing so quickly through the exercises and pieces Ms. Julie has assigned me. Music is important to me because it makes me feel good about myself.”

Emma Miller was chosen as the Student of the Month because she has exhibited an exemplary behavior of excellence and enthusiasm towards her music education.
