Behind the Curtain - Coordinating Melody Makers Recitals

Your Recital Assignment Day Coming by the end of March

Two-hundred deserving students, thirty inspiring teaching artists, five performance days, six schools of music discipline, ten technical levels, all present our most challenging coordinating effort each YACM season.

Our goal: Each recital promotes the excellent performances of mixed level students and a varied representation of SMC musical disciplines.

How does this all come together?

Our very own diligent Arts Coordinator, Dustin Houle, is at work every day coordinating a matrix of challenging variables to achieve the YACM goal in the lives of each of our children and youth. Each student must have the opportunity to cultivate their performance skills as a representation of their musical acuity.

The ability to effectively share the beauty of one’s music with grace and poise is an ability that must be nurtured from year to year.

Stop to consider just one family’s participation: 3 children who study 5 disciplines, with 4 different teachers, and 2 of them perform with 2 ensembles, and one is a Premier Performer and an accompanist for a vocal ensemble.

Now attempt to ensure that family attends as few recital days as possible, attends as few rehearsals as possible while still ensuring each child is well prepared. Oversee the coordination of each of the awards earned by the children to ensure they are presented on the right day, and schedule their 4 different instructors who have limited availability to attend all the recitals in which the family of 3 are performing:

WHEW! That’s just 3 of the 200!

Be assured, being a part of a conservatory provides your family with the experience of a community that knows how to create a setting for excellence in the arts. Arts Coordinator, Dustin Houle will have your recital week of June 15 – 20th planned by the end of March.

This is an exciting time for your child who is working now to master their performance assignment. Our staff is committed to experiences of joy, self-esteem, and excellence for your children.

Together we will encourage and support them as they grow and face the challenge of excellence.
