Exploratory Rehearsal: Solano Junior Strings

"Solano Junior Strings is off to a 'small but mighty' start," said Teaching Artist Isaac Pastor-Chermack on the inaugural and exploratory rehearsal for the Solano Junior Strings on Monday, March 23.
Mr. Pastor-Chermack was joined by youth from both Vacaville High School and Will C. Wood High School.
Thirteen students had expressed interest in the participation in the possible new ensemble sponsored by the Conservatory. Of the thirteen, nine appeared for rehearsal with several more hoping to join the group on March 30.
Mr. Pastor-Chermack led the young muscians in sight-reading Mozart's String Quartet in G Major, K.156. Mr. Pastor-Chermack's intention is to gauge range of these young musicians. Next week's session will feature less classical music and more contemporary and pop.
The challenge of launching a new orchestra is to gather a sufficient number of musicians who can contribute to a sense of esprit de corps. If a group is large enough to generate an internal "buzz" of enthusiasm, the launch can take hold.
"I invited the students to bring a friend to next week's rehearsal," Mr. Pastor-Chermack said.
Solano Junior Strings is still seeking violists (four positions available), cellists (three positions), and bass players (one position).
