Solano Junior Strings will perform a collaborative concert with the Buckingham Charter Magnet High School Choir, Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church in Vacaville. Made possible by major funding from the Margaret Beelard Foundation, Solano Junior Strings (SJS) is a growing community youth orchestra founded under the leadership of the Artistic Director, Wanda Cook, of Young Artists Conservatory of Music.
The SJS program was established under the conviction that the youth of Solano County should have the opportunity to experience the joy and meaning of pursuing excellence in the expression of significant classical literature and orchestral performance. Its members are comprised of string players from throughout Vacaville and Fairfield. Conductor and cellist Isaac Pastor Chermak, who recently received a grant from Vacaville Arts Council in support of his contribution to SJS, has worked closely with Buckingham Choir Director Kristen Goree. Under Ms. Goree’s direction, Mr. Chermak has written the orchestra arrangements which will accompany the Buckingham Chorus. “I accepted with an enthusiastic, yes! When Mr. Chermak offered to have the members of Solano Junior Strings accompany my choir”, said choir director Kristen Goree.
Young Artists Conservatory of Music (YACM), located in Vacaville, is the region’s only privately funded non-profit comprehensive music education and performing arts organization. YACM is dedicated to providing youth who wish to unlock their artistic potential with classical training by instilling the habits and disciplines of excellence. YACM has programs that inspire over 400 youth through chorus, band, orchestra, and guitar classes on public school campuses throughout Vallejo, Fairfield Suisun, and Vacaville. Significant collaboration between schools, parents, donors, and YACM has shown to elevate the development of children and increase the social capacities of our community over the last 11 years, says Artistic Director, Wanda Cook. SJS has open auditions for interested youth.
Choir Director, Kristen Goree invites you. “There will be a wonderful variety of classical songs, including foreign language pieces (Latin, African, Hebrew, Spanish, etc.), with both peaceful ballads and fast-paced, toe-tapping songs incorporated. There will be something for everyone to enjoy as you come and support this talented group of students. The doors will open at 6:30 pm with the concert to begin at 7:00 pm. Suggested Donations are $5 for adults; $3 for students; children 6 and under are free. We look forward to seeing you there!”
